Workers warn of disruption as government stalls 2024 salary structure
The Joint Unions of Tertiary Institutions in Abia have announced a three-day warning strike starting March 18 over the state government’s delay in implementing the 2024 Consolidated Salary Structure.
In a statement, the unions said all dialogue channels have been exhausted and described the delay as “unacceptable” and an “economic injustice” to staff. They warned that failure to act could trigger an indefinite strike.
Affected institutions include Abia State University, Uturu; Abia State College of Education, Arochukwu; and Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology, Aba. The unions cover senior staff and academic staff across universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
The group called on the Abia Government to act urgently to restore industrial peace and protect workers’ welfare.
