Senator says move aims to preserve democracy and prevent one-party dominance.
Binos Yaroe announced his defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Saturday in Yola, citing the need for a strong democratic opposition in Nigeria.
Yaroe revealed that nine opposition senators from parties including the Labour Party, APGA, and PDP had collectively resolved to join ADC, aiming to strengthen opposition ahead of the 2027 elections. He stressed that a vibrant democracy requires a voice of dissent, warning that mass defections to the ruling APC could eliminate opposition entirely.
The senator explained that his PDP exit followed consultations with constituents across all nine LGAs in Adamawa South and stemmed from internal crises within the PDP that left the party fractured and uncertain.
Yaroe also highlighted a personal loyalty to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who supported his political journey, as a key factor in joining the ADC coalition.
