Party chieftain says defections and court rulings won’t weaken PDP’s core support.
Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse has reassured that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) remains a formidable opposition force, dismissing fears sparked by the recent Appeal Court ruling invalidating the 2025 Ibadan National Convention and ongoing leadership disputes.
Speaking to NAN, Pearse said defections of some governors and lawmakers do not signal the party’s collapse, noting that core supporters remain loyal.
“The PDP is still the biggest threat to the ruling party. Our people have not left; we are not bothered. God will vindicate the true lovers of the party,” he said.
Pearse called on the Nyesom Wike-led faction of the Caretaker National Working Committee (NWC) to allow the party leadership space to resolve internal issues, emphasizing that the Ibadan convention properly represented over 3,000 delegates nationwide and no fresh national convention is needed.
He also dismissed former Senate President Bukola Saraki’s call for reopening past disputes, warning that revisiting resolved issues could undermine party unity ahead of future elections.
