Israeli PM warns of continued strikes as Iran’s leadership faces mounting pressure.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu slammed Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei as a “puppet of the Revolutionary Guards” on Thursday, saying the cleric cannot even show his face in public.
Khamenei, son of the slain Ali Khamenei, is believed wounded in Israeli strikes, which Netanyahu said aim to deal lethal blows to Iran’s nuclear and missile programs. The Israeli leader hinted at potential further assassination attempts, stressing that Israel would take measures to protect itself and eliminate threats.
Netanyahu added that while Israeli attacks could destabilize Iran’s ruling system, the ultimate change would depend on the Iranian people, telling them: “The moment when you can walk out into freedom is drawing ever closer.”
Earlier, Khamenei issued his first statement as supreme leader, calling for revenge for war victims. The message was read on state TV, underscoring rising tensions as the nearly two-week-old conflict with the U.S. and Israel continues.
