As Muslims observe Ramadan and Christians mark Lent, women in Ikorodu gathered for prayers, fellowship and a call to raise responsible children who will shape Nigeria’s future.
The wife of the Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Kadijat Ladega, has urged mothers to take parenting seriously and provide proper guidance to raise children who will positively impact society.
She made the call during a joint breaking of fast and fellowship for Muslim and Christian women held at the Ikorodu Council Secretariat in Lagos.
According to Ladega, women must be intentional about raising responsible children who will contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s growth and development.
The event, organised through the council’s Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Department, created a platform for prayers, reflection and unity among women across the local government area.
Ladega explained that the gathering was designed to promote peaceful coexistence, empathy and unity, especially during spiritually significant seasons like Ramadan and Lent, which emphasise sacrifice, charity and renewal.
She added that strengthening families and empowering women remain key to building resilient communities and advancing national development.
The programme also had a welfare component, with over 500 women receiving food palliatives, reflecting the council’s commitment to social support in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Reacting to the initiative, Princess Busola Isikalu, the Iyaloja of Ikorodu, praised Ladega for bringing women together and noted that the season has further united Muslims and Christians.
She emphasised that unity, love and collective responsibility are essential for Nigeria’s progress.
The event was attended by the council’s Vice Chairman Babawale Alogba, lawmakers, wives of political officeholders, community leaders, and religious representatives.
