Afam Okeke calls for dialogue to end strike threatening justice delivery.
Afam Okeke has urged the Kano State government and the Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN) to resume negotiations in good faith following an ongoing strike that has disrupted justice delivery.
Okeke warned that prolonged industrial action by law officers affects citizens’ access to justice, emphasizing that while workers have the right to strike, amicable resolution through negotiation, mediation, or conciliation is crucial. He stressed that a solution balancing welfare concerns with uninterrupted judicial services is in the public interest.
The LOAN chairman, Abdullahi Shamsu, cited poor working conditions and unpaid statutory allowances as reasons for the indefinite strike, noting that prior engagements with the state government had failed to resolve these issues.
Okeke urged all parties to prioritize mutual understanding and compromise to restore the efficient functioning of the justice system.
