Women leaders in Ilorin rally for mentorship, education, and leadership opportunities for girls.
Women leaders and professionals have called for greater support, mentorship, and opportunities for women and girls, stressing that investing in them is key to building stronger families, communities, and the nation.
The call was made during the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration organised by the Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association at the 303 Composite Group in Ilorin.
Chairperson of NAFOWA 303 Composite Group, Marriam Akade Lawal, said empowering women and girls must be seen as a shared responsibility, noting that society benefits when women are supported to reach their full potential.
Speaking under the theme “Give to Gain: Leadership, Care and Justice for Women and Girls,” she urged women to mentor younger girls and support one another to build a more inclusive society.
“To the young girls here today, you are the future leaders of our nation. Believe in yourselves and never allow anyone to limit your dreams,” she said.
Also speaking, Azeezat Ibrahim, Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria in Kwara State, encouraged women to invest intentionally in others through mentorship and encouragement. According to her, when women support each other, everyone rises.
Retired labour expert Olaide Ajiboye stressed the importance of education for girls, saying empowering women is essential for building the next generation of professionals and leaders.
Similarly, HR manager Oluwatoyin Olaniyi urged women to build networks, share knowledge, and support the growth of younger people, noting that leadership thrives on collaboration and mentorship.
Participants at the event agreed that empowered women strengthen families—and strong families build stronger nations.
