EMIR OF HADEJIA URGES CRACKDOWN ON RUTF DIVERSION

Traditional ruler calls for safeguarding therapeutic food for malnourished children.

The Emir of Hadejia, Dr Adamu Abubakar-Maje, has tasked the National Orientation Agency (NOA) to intensify efforts against the diversion and misuse of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) in the state.

Speaking through the Galadima of Hadejia, Alhaji Usman Abdul’aziz, the emir urged NOA, traditional leaders, and health agencies to ensure RUTF reaches only malnourished children via certified health professionals and to educate the public against selling or misusing the supplements.

The visit, led by NOA State Director Ahmad Tijjani alongside UNICEF and the Jigawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, aimed to mobilize district heads and community leaders to raise awareness about the health risks of improper RUTF use.

Alhaji Magaji Uba of JSPHCDA stressed that RUTF is free at health facilities and strictly for medically eligible children, warning that misuse could lead to serious health complications. Parents and community members were urged to support health authorities in protecting children’s wellbeing.
