Over 1,500 farmers displaced by industrial activities in Sokoto have received a major boost as BUA Cement rolls out farming inputs, training and business tools to help rebuild livelihoods.

BUA Cement Company has distributed farming inputs, equipment and business support tools to 1,500 residents of resettled communities in Sokoto State, as part of its corporate social responsibility programme.

The company said the initiative—worth about ₦400 million—includes agricultural inputs, training, business development support and working tools aimed at helping affected communities rebuild their livelihoods.

According to him, the intervention forms part of a five-year community development agreement between the company and its host communities.

So far, 300 farmers have already received fertilisers, improved seedlings and other farm chemicals for dry-season farming.

Binji added that the company’s CSR efforts also cover scholarship schemes, vocational training, healthcare support, education infrastructure, electricity projects, potable water supply and road construction across host communities.

Other commitments include the establishment of a technical college, employment opportunities for indigenes, patronage of local contractors, and annual donation of cement for repairs of public facilities.

Also speaking, Ali Gumel, Assistant Director for Health, Environmental and Community Services, said the programme would continue to support displaced residents through alternative farmland provision, modern farming training and skills acquisition programmes.

The Chairman of Wamakko Local Government Area, Umar Dundaye, described the initiative as a strategic intervention that would boost agriculture and improve livelihoods.

Similarly, Gov. Ahmad Aliyu’s Special Adviser on Corporate Services, Usman Arzika, praised the gesture and urged beneficiaries to make good use of the support.
