BAUCHI WOMEN JOURNALISTS PUSH FOR HEALTH, EDUCATION RIGHTS

Empowering rural women to claim their rights.

The Bauchi State chapter of NAWOJ, in partnership with UNICEF, has called for stronger protection of women’s rights to quality healthcare, education, and justice, marking the 2026 International Women’s Day in Durum Village, Bauchi LGA.

Chairperson Hajiya Rashida Yusuf said the event aimed to raise awareness among rural women, empowering them to access health services, attend antenatal care, and ensure children under five receive routine immunizations.

Mrs Habiba Adamu of the Bauchi Ministry of Women Affairs highlighted the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law, urging women to report abuse, while FIDA’s Halima Yusuf called on victims of gender-based violence to speak out instead of remaining silent.

Healthcare experts also stressed the importance of skilled birth attendance, antenatal care, and good hygiene to reduce child and maternal mortality.

The programme underscores a commitment to women’s empowerment, especially in rural communities, ensuring no woman is left behind.
