WOMEN LEADERS CALL FOR UNITY TO BREAK BARRIERS AT CSW70

Hulayat Omidiran, Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), joined global women leaders in New York to urge women worldwide to unite against barriers to equality. Speaking at the Global Women Partnership Without Borders forum during the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW70), Omidiran stressed that gender imbalance weakens societies.

“Unity cannot flourish where exclusion persists. Leadership must reflect the population to build trust and participation,” she said, pledging the FCC’s commitment to a Nigeria where opportunities are based on merit, not bias.

Former Minister of Women Affairs Pauline Tallen highlighted ongoing inequalities: women hold just 64% of men’s legal rights globally and in Nigeria, though they make up 70% of farm labour, they own under 15% of land. She called for lasting cross-border partnerships, mentorship, and legal reforms.

The forum also celebrated achievements with awards: President Bola Tinubu received the Champion of Women’s Empowerment, Mrs. Ngozi Adeleke earned the Inclusive Community Development award, and Ambassador Abubakar Jidda was honoured for Diplomatic Leadership in Advancing Women in Power.
