BODO/GLIMT STUN SPORTING 3–0 TO EDGE CLOSER TO UCL QUARTER-FINALS

Norwegian underdogs Bodø/Glimt continued their fairytale UEFA Champions League run with a commanding 3–0 win over Sporting CP in the first leg of their round-of-16 clash in Norway.

Playing in front of a buzzing crowd at Aspmyra Stadion, the Norwegian side delivered another stunning performance to record their fifth straight victory in their debut Champions League season.

Midfielder Sondre Fet opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, calmly converting a penalty after a VAR review. Just before halftime, Ole Blomberg doubled the lead with a composed finish.

The hosts sealed the victory in the 71st minute when Kasper Høgh bundled home a low cross from Jens Petter Hauge, leaving the Portuguese side with a mountain to climb.

Bodø/Glimt coach Kjetil Knutsen stuck with the same starting lineup for the fifth consecutive match, a rare feat last achieved by AJ Auxerre more than two decades ago.

Sporting created a few chances through striker Luis Suárez, but the visitors struggled to break down Bodø’s relentless pressing and organized defense.

The second leg will be played at Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon, where Bodø/Glimt will look to finish the job and potentially set up a quarter-final clash with Arsenal F.C. or Bayer Leverkusen.
