UNILORIN VC PRAISES MEDIA PARTNERSHIP AT RAMADAN IFTAR

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, has applauded journalists for their continued support and partnership with the institution, describing the media as key stakeholders in promoting the university’s growth and reputation.

Egbewole gave the commendation while hosting journalists, staff members, students and other stakeholders at the university’s annual Ramadan Iftar held at the Vice Chancellor’s Lodge on campus. The gathering created an atmosphere for interaction, reflection and unity during the holy month.

According to him, the presence of journalists at the event—despite their busy schedules—demonstrates the strong relationship between the University of Ilorin and the media. He noted that constructive media engagement has played a major role in projecting the university’s achievements and sustaining its progress over the years.

The Vice Chancellor described the annual Iftar as more than just a meal, saying it provides an opportunity to strengthen bonds within the university community and deepen collaboration with external partners.

Delivering a Ramadan message, the Deputy Chief Imam of the university, Prof. Musa Sidiq Abdullahi, reminded Muslims that fasting goes beyond abstaining from food and drink. He said Ramadan is a time for self-discipline, increased prayers, Qur’an recitation and seeking forgiveness from Allah.

He urged Muslims to reflect on their spiritual growth during the fasting period and make the most of the last ten days of Ramadan through prayers and supplications, while also reducing distractions such as excessive social media use.

The event concluded with special prayers for Nigeria, Kwara State and the University of Ilorin, as participants sought peace, progress and prosperity for the nation and the institution.
