As the world marks International Women’s Day 2026, the Lagos State Government is calling for stronger and deliberate actions to safeguard the rights of women and girls.
Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Bolaji Dada, said the 2026 theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls,” highlights the urgent need to strengthen access to justice and ensure real progress for women across communities.
In a statement to commemorate the global celebration, Dada noted that the campaign message “Give to Gain” reinforces the importance of investing in women and girls through education, empowerment, protection services and social support systems.
According to her, empowering women is not just a social responsibility but a key driver of economic growth and societal stability.
She added that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration remains committed to programmes and policies that protect women’s rights, promote economic inclusion and strengthen responses to gender-based violence in Lagos State.
The commissioner also praised the resilience, innovation and contributions of women across sectors including governance, business, education, healthcare and community development.
Dada encouraged women and girls to actively participate in government empowerment initiatives and urged residents to uphold human rights while working towards a more inclusive and equitable society.
