Nigeria is set to strengthen its diplomatic presence worldwide as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors-designate to various foreign missions and the United Nations.
The list includes 31 non-career and 34 career diplomats whose nominations were earlier confirmed by the Senate in December 2025.
According to a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the envoys will represent Nigeria across key countries and multilateral institutions as the government moves to deepen diplomatic and economic ties globally.
Among the notable postings, Femi Fani-Kayode was assigned to Germany, while Jimoh Ibrahim will serve as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Other appointments include Reno Omokri to Mexico, Lateef Kayode Are to the United States, and former Health Minister Isaac Folorunso Adewole to Canada.
Former INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu was posted to Qatar, while Aminu Dalhatu will serve as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
The presidency said agrément, the formal diplomatic approval from host countries, has already been received from the UK and France for some nominees, while requests for others are still being processed.
Tinubu has also directed the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs to begin an induction programme for the ambassadors-designate before they assume duties at their respective missions.
The deployment marks one of the largest diplomatic postings in recent years as Nigeria seeks to expand its global engagement and strengthen international partnerships.
