Suspect in custody as investigation moves to Gender-Based Offences Unit.
The Nigeria Police Force in Ondo State has arrested a 62-year-old man over the alleged defilement of a 12-year-old girl in Akure.
Police spokesperson DSP Abayomi Jimoh said the case was reported on March 3 by the victim’s mother. The alleged incident occurred on February 28 at Ehin Ala in Akure.
According to preliminary findings, the suspect allegedly lured the minor under the pretense of helping her after she visited his shop to charge her mother’s phone. Authorities say the case has now been transferred to the Gender-Based Offences Unit for discreet investigation.
The child is currently receiving medical treatment, while the suspect remains in custody pending prosecution.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting women and children and vowed that offenders will face the full weight of the law. Police also urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid swift intervention.
