NSC BOSS REAFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR PARA ATHLETES AHEAD OF NATIONAL PARA GAMES

Nigeria’s para athletes are getting a renewed vote of confidence as preparations intensify for the 3rd National Para Games later this month in Abuja.

The Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, has reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to strengthening para sports development across the country.

Olopade said the upcoming National Para Games will not only celebrate inclusivity but also help discover and nurture the next generation of Nigerian champions.

According to him, Nigeria’s para athletes have consistently delivered outstanding performances at global events such as the Paralympic Games and the Commonwealth Games, winning medals and raising the country’s sporting profile in events like athletics, powerlifting, table tennis and wheelchair basketball.

Olopade, who previously served as president of wheelchair basketball in Nigeria, said his experience working closely with para athletes has deepened his appreciation of their resilience and dedication.

He stressed that the commission would continue to provide equal funding, opportunities and developmental support to para sports, insisting that no athlete should be marginalised because of disability.

The 3rd National Para Games will take place from March 26 to April 3 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, and is expected to serve as a key platform for discovering new talents who could represent Nigeria at future international competitions.
