Residents of Kungaboku in the FCT are calling for a permanent police post, regular patrols, and stronger local security after a violent bandit attack left a vigilante dead and several people abducted.
The Thursday night raid targeted farms and homes, abducting a retired military officer, *Bankole Ganiyu, and three children. Fortunately, troops from the *7 Guards Battalion, alongside police and vigilante groups, rescued the seven victims during a coordinated operation over the weekend.
Community leaders, including Chief Ishaya Jagaba and Capt. Wale Adebayo, stressed that Kungaboku’s thriving farms and livestock operations make it a key economic hub deserving of robust security infrastructure. Residents have pledged land and support for a police post and urge the FCT Police Commissioner to approve permanent deployment and regular patrols.
Farmers recounted harrowing scenes of attackers firing into farm settlements while workers hid in ceilings and bushes. One vigilante was killed in the crossfire, and abducted workers narrowly escaped. Farm owners, including Mr Nnamchi Ephraim and Capt. Michael Ifesemen, emphasized the need for government support, better infrastructure, and cooperation among farmers, residents, and neighboring communities to restore safety.
The community also highlighted critical gaps in roads and health facilities, linking infrastructure improvements to both economic growth and security. Residents remain hopeful that coordinated action from authorities can reclaim Kungaboku as a peaceful, safe hub for agriculture and living.
