The Nigerian Institute of Management, Chartered (NIM) says stronger professional management and governance are key to improving productivity and national economic performance.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos to mark NIM’s 65th anniversary, President Rtd. Commodore Abimbola Ayuba highlighted the need for enhanced management capacity across public and private institutions to drive efficiency, accountability, and sustainable growth.
The institute will host a colloquium on August 19 themed: “Sixty-Five Years of Management Excellence: Strengthening Institutional Governance in an Evolving Economy”. Experts will discuss strategies for improving governance structures and management systems nationwide.
Ayuba stressed that professional management is a critical driver of institutional performance, noting that NIM has trained over 200,000 individuals and 400 corporate organisations since its founding in 1961. Members now occupy pivotal roles across sectors, helping organisations anticipate risks, adopt emerging technologies, and make informed strategic decisions.
Highlighting NIM’s recent focus, Ayuba said the institute has been offering training on AI, IoT, and robotics, equipping managers to respond to global changes and economic challenges.
Other anniversary activities include turning the sod for the proposed Management House in Alausa, Ikeja, and publishing a commemorative book documenting NIM’s contributions to governance and management over the decades.
