NGE LAUNCHES RESEARCH, TRAINING & PUBLICATIONS COMMITTEE TO BOOST JOURNALISM

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has inaugurated a Research, Training and Publications Committee aimed at bridging the gap between journalism education and newsroom practice.

Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Paul University, Awka, will chair the committee, which includes veteran journalists and media experts such as Dr. Tony Onyima, Ms. Angela Agoawike, Dr. Iyobosa Uwugiaren, and Dr. Kabir Alabi Garba.

NGE President Eze Anaba said the committee will drive research, training, and publications to strengthen skills, promote best practices, and keep editors and journalists updated on emerging trends. He added that the initiative aims to address the disconnect between academic training and professional realities in Nigeria’s media sector.

Prof. Okunna described the committee as “timely and significant”, promising that their combined expertise would add value to the Guild and the broader media industry. The committee will serve a two-year term, producing research studies, training programs, and publications to enhance journalism professionalism nationwide.
