As the world celebrates International Women’s Day 2026, the Global Hope for Women and Children Foundation (GLOHWOC) is calling for stronger investment in women and girls under the theme “Give To Gain.”
The organisation says meaningful progress in society happens when governments, communities, and institutions invest in education, protection, leadership opportunities, and economic empowerment for women and girls.
Speaking on the occasion, GLOHWOC CEO, Dr. Christiana Abayomi-Oluwole, stressed that empowering women is not just about fairness but also about sustainable development.
“When we give women education, safety, opportunity and a voice, we gain stronger families, resilient communities and inclusive economies. Investing in women is not charity — it’s a strategic investment in society’s future,” she said.
GLOHWOC noted that millions of women and girls across Nigeria and beyond still face poverty, limited access to education and leadership, gender-based violence, early marriage, and economic exclusion.
To tackle these challenges, the foundation continues to run programmes focused on second-chance education for out-of-school girls, prevention of gender-based violence, economic empowerment for young women, and advocacy for inclusive policies that protect women’s rights.
The organisation also urged governments, civil society groups, private sector actors, and communities to provide opportunities, protection, resources, and platforms that amplify women’s voices and leadership.
According to GLOHWOC, when women rise, communities prosper, economies grow, and societies become more inclusive.
