GRID POWER SLUMPS: BEDC WARNS OF REVENUE HIT AS SUPPLY DROPS

Nigeria’s fragile power supply is taking a toll on electricity distributors.

The Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) says the sharp drop in electricity generation from the national grid now around 3,940 megawatts is hurting its operations, reducing customer satisfaction, and slashing revenue.

Speaking in Benin, BEDC’s Chief Commercial Officer, Ogunleye Akinleye, said the low generation has cut electricity supply across the country, including the company’s franchise areas of Edo, Delta, Ondo and Ekiti.

According to him, when customers receive little or no power, many *post-paid users lose the motivation to pay, while *prepaid users buy less electricity, leading to weak revenue for the company.

Akinleye warned that the revenue dip is already affecting BEDC’s ability to meet market obligations within Nigeria’s electricity supply chain limiting access to full operational funding.

Despite the challenges, he appealed to customers for patience, assuring that the Federal Government and power sector stakeholders are working to resolve the generation crisis.
