Retirees and civil servants are cheering President Bola Tinubu’s approval of 100% gratuity payments for retiring federal workers, calling it a long-overdue recognition of their service.
The Federal Executive Council’s Exit Benefit Scheme guarantees retirees a gratuity equal to their full annual salary, effective from January. Many see it as a morale booster and a cushion for life after service.
Segun Idowu, a civil servant, called it “a big win” and a motivation to serve with passion. Retiree Thompson Yamput described the timing as “the finger of God,” celebrating the relief it brings after years of service under the Contributory Pension Scheme.
Others, including Mrs Eugenia Kolo and Paul Ifeanyichukwu, urged prompt implementation, stressing that policies must translate into real support. The government says the scheme ensures that officers with at least 10 years of service retire with dignity and financial security.
