EBONYI GOVT ORDERS DEMOLITION OF SHRINES IN AMASIRI OVER GRUESOME LAND CONFLICT

The Ebonyi State Government has taken sweeping action in Amasiri community after a deadly land dispute turned gruesome, leaving several people dead and four victims reportedly beheaded.

Governor Francis Nwifuru has ordered the destruction of all shrines and deities in Amasiri, accusing the community of complicity in the violent clash linked to a renewed land dispute.

The directive followed an expanded state security meeting, according to a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.

The crisis erupted between Amasiri and neighbouring Okporojo community, leading to several deaths and widespread destruction of property.

Authorities said the violence took a gruesome turn when attackers allegedly beheaded four victims and fled with their severed heads.

In response, the state government imposed strict sanctions on the community, including the removal of political appointees from Amasiri, dethronement of traditional rulers, a curfew and the closure of schools.

Governor Nwifuru said the measures will remain in place until the missing heads are recovered and those responsible for the killings are arrested.

The government has also set up a 19-member committee to demarcate the disputed boundary between the two communities. The panel is headed by Paul Nwobashi.

Authorities say the curfew in Amasiri remains in force as investigations continue.
