Nigeria is teaming up with 60+ international regulators to set strict standards for AI-generated images and videos, aiming to fight deepfakes, non-consensual content, and privacy violations.
Babatunde Bamigboye of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) said the initiative, coordinated by the Global Privacy Assembly, seeks to ensure AI tools are used responsibly, with transparency, safeguards, and effective content removal mechanisms—especially to protect children and vulnerable groups.
This move aligns with Nigeria’s National AI Strategy, led by Minister Dr Bosun Tijani, and the NDPC’s privacy-first directives. Compliance audits under the Nigeria Data Protection Act will monitor adherence, balancing innovation with citizens’ privacy rights.
