Iran’s slain Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, will be laid to rest in his hometown of Mashhad, according to the Fars news agency.
The report says Khamenei will be buried behind the revered Imam Reza shrine — Iran’s most important Shiite holy site — mirroring the burial of his father. Before that, a public ceremony is expected to be held in Tehran, with further details to be announced.
Mashhad, Iran’s second-largest city with nearly three million residents, holds deep personal and religious significance for Khamenei, who was born there in 1939.
The burial plans follow his reported death in an Israeli airstrike in Tehran on Saturday, marking a dramatic and deeply symbolic moment in Iran’s modern history.
