IRAN EMBASSY IN NIGERIA CONDEMNS ‘MILITARY STRIKES,’ CITES SOVEREIGNTY CONCERNS

The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Nigeria has strongly condemned what it described as recent military attacks on Iranian territory, warning that the strikes raise serious legal and diplomatic concerns.

In a statement, the embassy said the attacks occurred amid ongoing diplomatic engagements between Iran and the United States, questioning the commitment to dialogue and peaceful dispute resolution. It argued the reported strikes violate Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, which prohibits the use of force against a nation’s territorial integrity or political independence.

According to the embassy, civilian sites—including a school in Minab—were reportedly affected, leading to casualties. It described the incident as a serious breach of sovereignty, especially as it occurred during Ramadan and ahead of Nowruz, periods of deep cultural and humanitarian significance.

While reaffirming Iran’s commitment to diplomacy, the embassy noted that international law recognises a nation’s right to self-defence. It called on the global community to uphold justice, accountability, and legal principles, warning that failure to do so could threaten regional stability and international peace.
