FG PUSHES TO COMPLETE ABUJA–KADUNA ROAD WITH NEW CONCRETE DESIGN

The Federal Government is doubling down on finishing the Abuja–Kaduna Road, a key link connecting the North Central region, the FCT, and major trade routes to Lagos.

Mohammed Ahmed, Director of Information at the Ministry of Works, said the road has been redesigned from asphalt to Continuous Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) for durability and long-term quality. “This road is strategic, and it must be completed once and for all,” he said during a site tour on Tuesday.

Engineer Chukwuma Kalu revealed that 60 km of the 81 km CRCP stretch is done, with 21 km remaining. The 17.3 km asphalt section on Kano–Zaria Road is about 80% complete, and the 6.63 km dual asphalt leading to Kano Airport is finished with streetlights installed. Work is ongoing day and night, with full completion expected by the end of April.

Senior Project Manager Robert Turner confirmed overall progress on Section One is roughly 80%, emphasizing efforts to minimise public disruption while ensuring timely delivery.

The tour also saw the inauguration of emergency intervention projects in Bwari and Lugbe, including road and drainage improvements to ease congestion, reduce travel time, and support local economic growth.
