Abuja’s security agencies are set for a major upgrade after fresh funding was approved to close critical equipment gaps.
The Executive Committee of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has cleared a N1.1 billion contract for the emergency procurement of communication gadgets and other security equipment.
FCTA Director of Procurement, Musa Onsachi, disclosed the decision after a meeting chaired by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, in Abuja.
According to Onsachi, the intervention is aimed at strengthening security operations across the Federal Capital Territory by addressing shortages in critical communication tools. He noted that when Wike assumed office in August 2023, significant gaps were identified in the equipment needed for efficient security coordination.
“With this support, security agencies will be able to carry out operations more effectively,” he said.
The latest move follows an earlier intervention in July 2024 when Wike handed over 50 operational vehicles fitted with communication gadgets to security agencies to enhance crime-fighting efforts in the FCT.
Authorities say the new procurement will further improve response time, coordination, and overall security in the nation’s capital.
