Everton finally found their groove at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, snapping a seven-match home winless streak with a solid 2-0 victory over Burnley — and boosting their European qualification hopes in the process.
First-half heroics from James Tarkowski and a cool second-half finish by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall sealed the win, lifting David Moyes’ side to eighth on 43 points — just two behind sixth-placed Chelsea. Idrissa Gueye nearly added a third, rattling the crossbar.
While Everton celebrated, it was heartbreak for Leeds United. A 1-0 home defeat to Sunderland — decided by Habib Diarra’s second-half penalty — deepened their relegation fears. A disallowed Joe Rodon goal and a VAR handball call against Ethan Ampadu proved costly at Elland Road.
Sunderland’s win moves them to 40 points and seemingly safe, while Burnley remain second from bottom, eight points adrift with nine games to play.
Elsewhere, Bournemouth and Brentford shared a goalless draw, nudging Bournemouth into the top half and keeping Brentford seventh.
