“No one is above the law” — that’s the message from Southern Kaduna.
The Coalition for Southern Kaduna Renaissance has thrown its weight behind security agencies investigating former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, over alleged involvement in the wiretapping of the National Security Adviser’s phone lines.
Addressing journalists in Kafanchan, Gideon Mutum, speaking for the coalition, said if wrongdoing is established, prosecution must follow. According to him, intercepting communications linked to the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) is not a minor issue but a direct threat to national security.
“If sensitive intelligence is compromised, the consequences can be severe — from emboldening criminal networks to endangering lives,” Mutum warned, insisting the matter must be investigated without fear or favour.
The coalition also distanced itself from a recent pro-El-Rufai rally in Southern Kaduna, stressing that solidarity must be based on justice and collective interest — not political loyalty.
Other speakers, including Dr. Christopher Yerima of the College of Education Academic Staff Union, Kaduna State Chapter, cautioned against framing lawful investigations as persecution. Former Southern Kaduna youth leader Isaac Joseph echoed the call for accountability, saying justice must not only be done but be seen to be done.
The coalition, made up of civil society groups, women, students and faith-based organisations, says it remains committed to justice, security and dignity for the people of Southern Kaduna.
