OYO HIGH COURT UPHOLDS PDP’S 2025 IBADAN CONVENTION

Fresh twist in the PDP leadership battle as a state court backs the November 2025 convention that produced new national officers.

Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has validated the 2025 elective convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held on November 15 and 16 in Ibadan.

The convention produced Kabiru Turaki as National Chairman. Delivering judgment, the court ruled that the exercise complied fully with the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended), finding no breach of due process.

The suit was filed by Folahan Adelabu through his counsel, Misbau Adetunmbi (SAN). The court also dismissed applications by other parties seeking to halt proceedings or join the case, describing them as lacking merit.

The ruling comes months after a Federal High Court in Ibadan, presided over by Justice Uche Agomoh, nullified the same convention and barred Turaki and other officials from parading themselves as national officers, while recognising a caretaker committee led by Mohammed Abdulrahman and Samuel Anyanwu.

With this latest judgment, the PDP’s leadership tussle appears far from over, as conflicting court decisions set the stage for further legal battles.
