Routine “show of force” turns tragic in the FCT.
A planned operational drill by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) ended in tragedy on Saturday morning after a female officer was crushed by one of the corps’ vehicles during a convoy manoeuvre in Abuja.
The incident happened near the premises housing the FCT Police Command while officers were conducting a coordinated “show of force” exercise. Eyewitnesses said a black operational van reportedly made a sharp turn during the formation before the situation spiralled out of control.
According to sources, the female operative was positioned close to the moving vehicle when she fell — possibly from an unsecured door or side step — and was pinned beneath one of the tyres. Shouts filled the air as colleagues and bystanders rushed to lift the van in a desperate rescue effort.
An ambulance later evacuated her to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. As of press time, the NSCDC had not issued an official statement on the circumstances of the accident or the officer’s condition.
