Regional body drops “Nigeria” from its name to strengthen coordination while staying united with national CAN.
Christian leaders from 19 Northern states and the FCT have rebranded their platform as the Northern Christian Association (NCA), reviving the original 1964 name. The announcement came during a two-day meeting in Kaduna marking one year of Northern Chairman Rev. Joseph Hayab’s tenure.
Rev. Hayab stressed this is not a split from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) but a move to reconnect with historical roots and avoid confusion with the national body formed in 1976. The forum plans to advocate for religious freedom, educational access, and fair admission for Christian children across Northern Nigeria.
Leaders reaffirmed loyalty to CAN, pledging collaboration for peace, equity, and unity while addressing regional challenges.
