Abuja is calling for calm as the U.S.-Israel-Iran crisis deepens.
The Federal Government has appealed for de-escalation in the Gulf region amid rising hostilities involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
In a statement issued by Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, expressed deep concern over the growing tensions and warned of serious consequences for regional and global stability if the situation spirals further.
Nigeria urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint, avoid actions that could inflame the conflict and prioritise dialogue over confrontation. Tuggar stressed the need to strictly adhere to international law, particularly the principles of the UN Charter and the Geneva Convention — including respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity and peaceful resolution of disputes.
He cautioned against the excessive use of force, noting that civilian lives and global order must be protected.
Reaffirming Nigeria’s long-standing position on non-alignment and multilateralism, the minister backed renewed diplomatic engagement and confidence-building measures to resolve the crisis peacefully.
“Nigeria stands in solidarity with the international community in calling for calm,” he said, adding that sustainable peace can only be achieved through diplomacy, mutual respect and faithful adherence to international law.
