NDLEA boss says the 2026–2030 strategy will deliver stronger public health and security outcomes.
Retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa, Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), says the upcoming National Drug Control Master Plan (2026–2030) will significantly strengthen Nigeria’s anti-drug campaign.
Speaking in Abuja while receiving the final evaluation report of the 2021–2025 plan, Marwa praised the consultants led by Prof. Ibrahim Wakawa of the University of Maiduguri for what he described as an excellent and thorough review.
He said the next phase of the master plan would build on successes already recorded in drug supply and demand reduction, adding that its full implementation would align with President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.
Prof. Wakawa, in his remarks, commended Marwa’s leadership, noting that the agency exceeded several targets under the current plan. He expressed confidence that identified gaps — particularly in drug demand reduction — would be addressed in the new framework.
The 2026–2030 master plan is expected to tackle emerging threats such as synthetic drugs, dark-web trafficking, poly-substance abuse, and illicit financial flows fueling the drug trade.
