Former U.S. Secretary of State says six-hour testimony turned into a political spectacle.
Hillary Clinton has criticised her closed-door deposition before the House Oversight Committee over matters linked to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, describing the six-hour session as “very long” and “repetitive.”
Speaking in New York after Thursday’s hearing, Clinton said she answered every question to the best of her knowledge and repeatedly denied knowing Epstein. “I did not know Jeffrey Epstein. I never went to his island, his homes, or his offices,” she told reporters.
She acknowledged knowing Epstein’s associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, only casually. Clinton also said she was surprised that the questioning veered into topics such as UFOs and the debunked “Pizzagate” conspiracy theory.
Democratic lawmaker Suhas Subramanyam dismissed the deposition as a “political clown show,” arguing investigators should focus on individuals who had direct relationships with Epstein.
Her husband, former U.S. President Bill Clinton, is scheduled to testify next. While his name appears in some Epstein-related documents, he has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
Epstein, who was accused of running a long-term abuse ring involving underage girls, died in jail in 2019 before trial.
