The Israel-Iran conflict is spilling into Lebanon, as Hezbollah opens a new front in the escalating crisis.
The Lebanese militia Hezbollah said early Monday it targeted an Israeli military site south of Haifa with “a salvo of advanced rockets and a swarm of drones.” The group described the attack as retaliation for the killing of Iranian leader Ali Khamenei in sweeping U.S.-Israeli strikes on Tehran.
Earlier, the Israel Defense Forces reported air raid sirens across northern Israel after projectiles were launched from Lebanon. In response, it said it began striking Hezbollah targets across Lebanese territory, vowing not to allow the group to threaten Israeli civilians.
Eyewitnesses said Beirut’s southern suburbs were hit by at least 10 strikes, shaking large parts of the capital.
Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam warned that the country would not be dragged into “new adventures,” pledging action to protect the Lebanese people.
Backed by Iran, Hezbollah remains one of the region’s most powerful non-state armed groups. Though weakened by previous clashes with Israel, it is still believed to possess significant military capability — raising fears that the conflict could widen even further.
