German envoy says no single group can solve Nigeria’s complex security crisis alone.
The German Ambassador to Nigeria, Annett Günther, has urged stronger collaboration among government, civil society, security agencies and the media to tackle Nigeria’s persistent security challenges.
Speaking at the inaugural Abuja Policy Lab organised by the German Embassy Abuja, Günther stressed that terrorism and violence cannot be addressed in silos. She said resolving insecurity would unlock Nigeria’s economic potential and accelerate development.
At the forum, the National Coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Centre, Maj. Gen. Adamu Laka (represented by Brig. Gen. Peter Gbor), highlighted efforts to combat extremist ideology, terrorism financing and illicit mining. He called for stronger anti-money laundering measures, disruption of recruitment networks and expanded deradicalisation programmes like Operation Safe Corridor.
Thomas Bimba of the Institute for Integrated Transition linked rural violence to land disputes and urged better land mapping and governance to reduce conflict drivers.
Meanwhile, Arne Hargit of Germany’s Foreign Ministry said Berlin continues to support stabilisation and humanitarian programmes in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe, working with partners such as the EU and UNDP in the Lake Chad Basin.
The message was clear: collective, cross-sector action is key to restoring peace and stability in Nigeria.
