Beijing says it’s “deeply concerned” as cross-border tensions spiral between its two neighbours.
China has called for urgent dialogue following fresh military escalation between Pakistan and Afghanistan, after Pakistani forces carried out overnight strikes on targets inside Afghan cities, including Kabul.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said Beijing was saddened by the casualties and warned that the long-running cross-border dispute had intensified. He urged both sides to implement a ceasefire “as soon as possible” and resolve their differences through dialogue.
Islamabad has accused the Taliban of harbouring militants responsible for attacks inside Pakistan — an allegation the Taliban deny.
China, which shares borders with both countries and maintains economic ties with Kabul and Islamabad, said it is ready to play a “constructive role” in de-escalating tensions. Beijing is also a major arms supplier to Pakistan, including fighter jets.
