BENUE FLAGS OFF 90MW WASTE-TO-ENERGY POWER PROJECT

State government says new plant will turn waste into electricity, jobs and cleaner communities.

The Benue State Government has inaugurated a 90-megawatt waste-to-energy project designed to convert municipal and industrial waste into electricity and other valuable by-products.

Governor Hyacinth Alia, represented by his deputy Dr. Sam Ode, performed the ceremony at Atumba Village in Guma Local Government Area, describing the project as a game-changer for energy and environmental management in the state.

According to the governor, the facility will generate electricity while producing alternative fuels, bio-fertiliser, methane-based products and recyclable materials. It is also expected to create more than 6,000 jobs and attract international technical expertise.

Alia said the initiative would reduce power deficits, strengthen industrial growth, improve public health and provide a modern solution to waste management challenges. He urged the host community to take ownership of the project.

The project is being executed through a public-private partnership between Sectorlead Ltd. and the Benue State Government.
