BEDC ALERT: DAILY 9-HOUR POWER OUTAGES TO HIT BENIN FOR OVER A MONTH

Planned maintenance on major transmission line will disrupt electricity across key communities starting Feb. 27.

Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) has warned that residents and businesses in parts of Benin City will face daily electricity outages from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for more than a month.

The outages, running from Feb. 27 to Mar. 31, are to allow the Transmission Company of Nigeria to carry out critical works on the 330kV Benin–Ajaokuta Transmission Line 2 at the Ihovbor Station.

Affected areas include the University of Benin axis, Ugbowo, Oluku, Upper Sakponba, Ihovbor, and Egba corridors. BEDC emphasized the interruptions are planned maintenance, not faults, aimed at boosting transmission capacity and long-term reliability.

The company asked for patience, assuring that power will be restored each evening after daily construction work.
