ADC TO NIGERIANS: DUMP TRIBE, RELIGION — CHOOSE COMPETENCE IN 2027

As 2027 approaches, the African Democratic Congress says it’s time to vote with conscience, not sentiment.

Leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have urged Nigerians to rise above tribal and religious divisions when electing leaders in the 2027 general elections.

The call was made at the 27th Ramadan Lecture and Zakat 2026 hosted by Lagos chieftain Moshood Salvador in Surulere. The event drew politicians, clerics and community leaders from across Lagos State.

Salvador, a former PDP state chairman and leader of the Conscience Forum, blamed Nigeria’s hardship, unemployment and insecurity on years of poor leadership — not ethnicity or fate.

“When you vote for wrong leaders because of bread or rice, you and your children will suffer,” he warned, cautioning against vote-buying and short-term inducements.

He also criticised the Electoral Act for not mandating electronic transmission of results in all elections, arguing that full transparency would boost public trust.

Other ADC leaders echoed the unity message. Dr. Jide Adeniji said Nigeria must stop elevating tribe and religion above competence, while South-West Zonal Chairman Rahman Owokoniran described Salvador as a committed grassroots mobiliser fit for higher responsibility.

ADC National Organising Secretary Chinedu Idigbo added that the party’s governorship ticket remains open and transparent, stressing unity as the pathway to national progress.

Cleric Sheikh Mustapha Al-Almubarak highlighted the overlap of Ramadan and Lent as a symbol of interfaith harmony, condemning violence in places of worship.

The event ended with distribution of food items and Ramadan clothing to widows and vulnerable residents — a reminder, organisers said, that leadership must be rooted in service.
