15 FEARED DEAD AS SUSPECTED BOKO HARAM FIGHTERS RAID NIGER COMMUNITIES

Ramadan night turned into horror as gunmen stormed villages in Niger State.

At least 15 people are feared killed after suspected members of a Boko Haram faction attacked communities in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State late Saturday.

The assailants, believed to be linked to the Sadiku faction, reportedly invaded Tashan Maje, Saduro and Runtuwa settlements in Malale Ward, firing sporadically and sending residents fleeing into the bush. Eyewitnesses described the нападение as coordinated and overwhelming.

“They came suddenly and started shooting everywhere. People were running for their lives,” one survivor recounted.

Several others sustained gunshot injuries, while families abandoned their homes for safer neighbouring communities. As of press time, authorities had yet to release an official casualty breakdown.

Community leaders expressed anguish that the violence struck during Ramadan — a sacred period of prayer and reflection — urging security agencies to intensify patrols across vulnerable rural areas.

Security sources say efforts are underway to track the attackers, amid growing calls for increased military presence in forested corridors believed to harbour insurgents.

The latest assault highlights persistent security challenges in parts of North-Central Nigeria and raises fresh fears of further attacks if swift action is not taken.
