A late-night security operation in Ilorin has led to the arrest of 12 suspected illegal immigrants, raising fresh concerns about undocumented residents and potential security threats.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has arrested twelve suspected illegal immigrants believed to be from Mali during a targeted raid in the Akerebiata area of Ilorin. The operation followed credible intelligence provided by alert residents.
The suspects, aged between 20 and 43, were discovered living in a rented two-bedroom apartment under suspicious circumstances. Recovered items included nine mobile phones, two international passports, identification cards, cash, keys, and personal belongings.
State Commandant Bala Bawa Bodinga said the arrests are part of ongoing efforts to prevent illegal activities and strengthen security across Kwara. He confirmed that investigations are underway to determine their mission and possible links to criminal networks, after which they will be handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further action.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with timely information, stressing that protecting communities requires joint effort.
