Drama in Turin as Galatasaray lose on the night but seal a thrilling aggregate victory after extra-time heroics.
Galatasaray were beaten 3-2 by Juventus on Wednesday night, but it was the Turkish giants who had the last laugh, advancing 7-5 on aggregate to the Champions League round of 16.
Trailing 5-2 from the first leg in Istanbul, Juventus came out fighting. Manuel Locatelli fired them ahead from the penalty spot before Federico Gatti added another, despite Lloyd Kelly being sent off shortly after halftime.
With Weston McKennie heading in late to level the tie on aggregate, Juventus forced extra time and looked poised for a stunning comeback.
But Galatasaray showed resilience. Victor Osimhen struck at the end of the first half of extra time to steady the nerves, before Baris Alper Yilmaz sealed the deal with a late winner to crush the hosts’ hopes.
Despite the defeat on the night, Galatasaray march on and will now face either Liverpool or Tottenham Hotspur in the last 16, with the draw set for Friday.
