A key video could shape the judicial corruption trial of lawyer Victor Giwa, as the court rules it admissible despite defense objections.
An Abuja High Court on Wednesday allowed a video to be played in the trial of Victor Giwa and co-defendant Bukola Ibitade, facing charges of judicial corruption, document forgery, and impersonation. The defendants allegedly tried to mislead the Office of the Attorney-General by impersonating a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
Prosecution counsel argued the video, showing Giwa at a press conference criticizing the judiciary, was crucial for the case. Defense lawyers objected, claiming it violated the Evidence Act’s rules on electronic evidence.
Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie overruled the objections, noting they should have been raised when the video was first tendered. The court ordered the prosecution to play the video and reserved ruling on related motions.
