Federal Government appoints seasoned mathematician to lead Nigeria’s premier mathematics research institution in Abuja.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has approved the appointment of Prof. Benjamin Oyelami as the Acting Director/Chief Executive of the National Mathematical Centre (NMC), Sheda, Abuja.
The appointment takes immediate effect and follows the elevation of the former CEO, Prof. Promise Mebine, to Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Otuoke, Bayelsa State.
Prof. Oyelami, a respected mathematician, brings over two decades of experience at the centre, where he previously served as Coordinator of Mathematics and Theoretical Physics programmes, as well as Deputy Director and Coordinator of Academic Planning.
An alumnus of the University of Jos and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, he holds BSc, MSc, and PhD degrees in Mathematics and has published extensively in national and international journals.
His appointment is expected to strengthen the centre’s drive for excellence in mathematical research, innovation, teaching, and capacity building to support Nigeria’s scientific and national development goals.
