Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says Putrajaya is closely watching U.S. tariff disputes and Supreme Court rulings to safeguard national interests and $94B bilateral trade.
Malaysia is carefully evaluating its stance on the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) with the U.S., Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim told parliament on Tuesday. He noted ongoing legal developments in Washington, including unresolved Supreme Court rulings and pending congressional positions, that could impact trade.
“Any decision must balance national security with Malaysia’s broader trade interests,” Anwar said, highlighting the importance of monitoring tariff measures imposed during the Trump administration. Bilateral trade currently totals 367.5 billion ringgit (≈$94.35 billion).
