Border tensions flare dramatically as Pakistani and Afghan forces exchange heavy fire, with both sides trading blame amid rising military confrontations.
Intense clashes broke out Tuesday evening between Pakistani and Afghan forces at several points along their shared border, including Bazar Zakhakhel, Waragha, Maro Sar, and Shako.
Security sources said both sides used heavy weapons, though no casualties were immediately confirmed.
Pakistan accused Afghan forces of initiating “unprovoked firing” in the Torkham and Tirah areas, saying its troops responded swiftly and warned of stronger retaliation if tensions continue.
However, Afghanistan disputed the claim, insisting the confrontation began after Pakistani forces opened fire on Afghan patrol units.
The latest violence follows deadly Pakistani airstrikes earlier this week that Afghanistan says killed 18 people, while Pakistan maintains the strikes targeted militant hideouts, claiming over 80 militants were eliminated.
The escalating hostilities signal growing instability along one of the region’s most volatile borders.
